Our Mission
In Japan, a variety of extraordinary traditional techniques have been passed down through generations. These crafts require years—sometimes decades—to master. However, many of them are physically demanding and financially challenging, making it difficult to find successors to carry on the traditions.
Sadly, the number of artisans is declining. Without people to inherit these skills, these precious crafts will eventually vanish. In modern Japan, traditional crafts are often seen as outdated, and the widespread influence of Western culture has caused many to lose appreciation for them.
We are committed to ensuring that these remarkable skills are passed on to future generations. To achieve this, we believe:
- Japanese crafts must gain greater recognition worldwide.
- Japanese people must rediscover and appreciate the value of their own cultural heritage.
- Artisans must be rewarded fairly for their work to continue their craft.
If Japanese crafts gain wider recognition around the world and demand increases, artisans’ skills will be properly valued and rewarded financially. This, in turn, will inspire more young people to pursue careers as artisans. What we offer is not something mass-produced by machines. Each piece is handcrafted by skilled artisans, one by one. For this reason, our collections start from $1,000, reflecting the time, care, and craftsmanship involved. Some exceptional pieces may exceed $100,000.
Some handcrafted pieces, such as lacquerware, can take over half a year to complete, involving countless meticulous steps. The devastating Noto Peninsula earthquake in 2024 severely impacted Wajima lacquerware artisans—creators of the most renowned and valuable lacquerware in Japan, known as Wajima-nuri. Despite hardship, many artisans continue their work with dedication, striving to preserve this irreplaceable cultural heritage.
When cherished and properly cared for, these works of art can be passed down from generation to generation, becoming part of a family’s story. In fact, we ourselves still use lacquerware that was passed down from our grandparents to our parents, and then from our parents to us, carefully preserving it to this day.
Our mission is to share the timeless beauty of Japanese crafts with the world and to help ensure these traditions endure. Like a precious ring passed from parent to child, we wish to provide objects of lasting value—things that carry stories, memories, and artistry through time.
Through the pieces we offer, we hope to share even a small glimpse of the profound charm and beauty of Japanese craftsmanship with you.
